The Flossmoor Firefighters’ Pension Fund Board is responsible for the prudent administration of the Firefighters’ Pension Fund. Its duties include: maintaining accurate records; ensuring compliance with applicable state statutes; authorizing the payment of retirement, disability and survivor benefits; and overseeing all fiduciary matters related to the Fund.
Pursuant to the Illinois Pension Code (40 ILCS 5/4-101 et seq.), the Board consists of five members:
- Two active firefighter members elected by and from the Flossmoor Fire Department.
- One retired firefighter member elected by and from the Fund’s annuitants.
- Two members appointed by the Mayor of the Village of Flossmoor.
While the Board retains fiduciary responsibility for the Fund, the investment of pension assets is managed through the Illinois Firefighters’ Pension Investment Fund (FPIF), which was established by state law to consolidate and professionally manage the investment portfolios of local firefighter pension funds. The Board maintains oversight of contributions, benefit payments and compliance, while FPIF handles the investment of assets on behalf of the Fund.
