Downtown Flossmoor Streetscape Project

Project Summary

The project consists of improvements to Flossmoor’s downtown business area along Sterling Avenue, Central Drive and Park Drive with a primary goal of improving pedestrian and traffic safety and a secondary goal of downtown beautification. This project is being designed by Baxter & Woodman Consulting Engineers. Downtown businesses, the Flossmoor Road viaduct, the Flossmoor Public Library and Metra commuter station will be accessible throughout the project.

Project Status

The Village Board of Trustees welcomed a presentation at its Oct. 21, 2024, meeting by Village staff and Baxter & Woodman that reviewed plan and additional streetscape features, which were recommended by the Steering Committee — a volunteer group of Village residents, business owners, commissioners and staff. The project was awarded by IDOT in spring 2025 with construction in the downtown area expected to begin in June 2025 lasting through October 2025, weather permitting.

Latest Project Update

Oct. 31, 2025

• WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK: D Construction completed the pavement marking throughout the area and began planting several trees.

• WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT WEEK: Concrete repairs and repairs to business entries will happen, plus remaining fall landscaping projects will wrap up.
