Sidewalk Replacement Program

Flossmoor is fortunate to have a comprehensive network of sidewalks. Sidewalks play a vital role in community life. As conduits for pedestrian movement and access, they enhance connectivity and promote walking. Throughout time, concrete sidewalks are susceptible to cracking and heaving. As the sidewalks become deteriorated, they create safety problems for pedestrians. In order to eliminate these hazardous sections, the Public Works Department has an annual Sidewalk Replacement Program. Each year, the Department evaluates and selects areas needing sidewalk repair. 

Below are some examples of work accomplished in previous sidewalk replacement programs:

  • In FY 2025 - Replaced 321 defective squares on Flossmoor Road and various locations, including around Flossmoor Park and on Western Avenue.
  • In FY 2024 - Replaced 635 defective squares on Flossmoor Road, Governors Highway, and various locations.
  • In FY 2021 - Replaced 239 defective squares in the Flossmoor Hills and Highlands neighborhoods and other concrete maintenance at Village Hall.
  • In FY 2020 - Replaced 506 defective squares in the Heather Hill, Old Flossmoor, Flossmoor  Park, Flossmoor Hills, Southeast Flossmoor, and Chestnut Hills neighborhoods.
  • In FY 2019 - Replaced 537 defective squares in the Dartmouth neighborhood, on Avers Ave., and in the Central Business District island area.
  • In FY 2018 - Replaced 397 defective squares in the Heather Hill, Old Flossmoor, and Flossmoor Park neighborhoods.
  • In FY 2017 - Replaced 376 defective squares in the Heather Hill neighborhood and on Flossmoor Road.
  • In FY 2016 - Replaced 467 defective squares in the Heather Hill neighborhood.
  • In FY 2015 – Replaced 446 defective squares in the Heather Hill neighborhood and other various locations.
  • In FY 2014 – Replaced 242 defective squares in the Heather Hill neighborhood.
  • In FY 2013 – Replaced 220 defective squares in the Heather Hill neighborhood.
  • In FY 2012 – Replaced 175 defective squares in the Heather Hill neighborhood.
  • In FY 2010 – Replaced 600 defective squares in Flossmoor Hills and Highlands.
  • In FY 2009 – Replaced 600 defective squares in Pinewood subdivision and Flossmoor Hills.
  • In FY 2008 – Replaced 750 defective squares in the Old Flossmoor and Flossmoor Park neighborhoods.
