The United States Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act in 1994, transforming Martin Luther King Jr. Day into a day dedicated to volunteer service. The day of service is designed to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a Beloved Community.
The Village of Flossmoor embraces the federal holiday and encourages community members to participate in events that embody the purpose of a day 'on' instead of a day 'off.' The goal of the Day of Service is to create a community-wide event that includes multiple volunteer opportunities for individuals and families.
The Flossmoor Community Relations Commission (CRC) serves as the conduit between the Village and the community by seeking project hosts to promote their Day of Service projects via social media and other communication vehicles.
