Project Description: PLAN4SUCCESS will collect socks of all sizes and deliver them to Pacific Gardens Homeless Shelter, Frieda's House, or South Suburban Shelter. Socks are the most needed but least donated article of clothing for those experiencing homelessness. 9 out of 10 people who have donated clothing have never donated a pair of socks. Donations can be taken to Flossmoor Village Hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road, from December 1 to January 13, 2023, during business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Drop-off bins will be available in the main lobby.

Project Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Volunteers Needed: 10-15

Volunteer Requirements: Most volunteers will come from the PLAN4SUCCESS teen cohort.  Each volunteer is expected to bring new socks, sort them, box them up.  Only adults will be asked to deliver socks. If you would like to volunteer beyond a donation, email volunteer coordinator.

Description of your non-profit organization, business or group? PLAN4SUCCESS seeks to provide educational, social and cultural experiences for adolescents and young adults in the Chicagoland area. The primary focus of PLAN4SUCCESS is to conduct workshops and conference events to provide life skills, career development and training, and post-secondary financial assistance. PLAN4SUCCESS maximizes its reach and impact by using a Community Network structure, enabling youth to interact with hundreds of resources.

Project Description: PLAN4SUCCESS will collect packaged, store-bought baked goods for local service agencies that serve our community including our police and fire departments coupled with the 9-1-1 communications center throughout the South Suburbs. Volunteers will organize pre-baked goods and snacks to deliver to the local stations in the South Suburbs as an act of kindness to our first responders thanking them for their service. This year we would also like to deliver baked goods to the teacher's lounges in all Homewood and Flossmoor schools. Donations will be accepted at Flossmoor Village Hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road, on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Volunteer Requirements: Volunteers are asked to collect and donate individually wrapped snack items, assemble boxes, add verbiage, pack boxes with snacks, and deliver to sites. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Teen volunteers with a driver's license are asked to sign a waiver and partner with at least one person if they deliver items to sites. Most volunteers are from the PLAN4SUCCESS Teen Cohort. If you would like to collect needed items or volunteer with our team, contact the volunteer coordinator.

Day of Service Project Host: Mayor Michelle Nelson

Project Description: Attend a classical music concert featuring talented pre-collegiate student musicians from the Music Institute of Chicago. Donations will be accepted at the door and will be given to NeighborScapes (neighborscapes.org) to support their efforts to renovate a distressed property in Harvey, Ill., for Community Building Fellows (CBFs) who will engage in civic activity and community service in Harvey.

We assist the community with various programs throughout the year: annual blood drive, annual turkey basket give-away to South Suburban communities, mentoring, health fair, voter registration drive, and more.

Project Description: Join the Flossmoor Hills School family for an outdoor clean up around the school and surrounding community. Be sure to wear warm clothes and bring gloves. Garbage bags will be supplied. Volunteers should gather in the front lobby of Flossmoor Hills school. Parking will be available in the school parking lot.
